HT Scholarship: Empowering the Next Generation in Medicine
What is it?
- A scholarship for high school students (Grades 9–12) interested in healthcare
- Covers full participation in Destination: Family Medicine
- Includes mentorship and gala recognition
As part of the HT Foundation’s commitment to Care, Serve, Give with priority in Healthcare and Education, the HT Scholarship supports academically gifted and community-minded high school students (Grades 9–12) who demonstrate a passion for medicine and healthcare.

Obective
Our objective is to encourage meaningful engagement in medicine and increase access to mentorship and learning opportunities—particularly for students from underrepresented communities. Our program and mentor doctors will give students the success strategies and support they need to become a Future MD!
Benefits
- Enrollment in Destination Family Medicine (December 8, 2025), a one-day enrichment course hosted by the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Medicine
- Mentorship with a medical doctor
- Two free tickets (for the student and mentor pair) and recognition at the HT Foundation’s “Stronger Together” Charity Gala where Scholarship Award Ceremony will be held (November 15, 2025)

HT Scholarship Committee
The HT Scholarship is guided by a distinguished committee of leaders in research, education, and community development. For fairness, we are not disclosing names at this time, but we are proud to share their credentials:
Committee Member 1: An internationally renowned scientist, serving as Editor-in-Chief of a leading medical journal and President of a global society in precision cancer medicine. This member is a Professor Emeritus at a major Canadian university, with decades of groundbreaking research in reproductive biology, inflammation, and chronic disease.
Committee Member 2: A senior philanthropic executive with extensive experience in fundraising and development for one of Ottawa’s largest hospital foundations. This member plays a key role in advancing healthcare innovation and supporting patients through community partnerships and donor engagement.
Committee Member 3:A dedicated education leader who serves as the Head of Student Services at a local secondary school. With a deep commitment to student success, this member provides critical guidance and support to young people navigating their academic and personal growth.

Dr. Kwadwo Kyeremanteng is the Department Head of Critical Care at The Ottawa Hospital. He
dedicates his time to care for extremely ill patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). As a
researcher, he is interested in improving ICU resources.

Destination: Family Medicine Course
Destination: Family Medicine is an immersive educational event for students in grades 9 to 12, designed to introduce the dynamic field of family medicine and primary care. Through over 20 customizable sessions, participants engage in case studies, critical thinking exercises, and hands-on problem-solving activities that develop analytical skills while exploring potential healthcare career paths. The program also enhances students’ understanding of the healthcare system, equipping them to make informed decisions as future professionals and knowledgeable healthcare participants.
